wheee. im finally out from self quarantine. and im FINALLY starting on my project!
at 10.45 i stepped into my future second home. then i entered my tiny workspace. then i got a jump when someone shrieked/moaned/screamed "my rat DIED!"
anyway that left me speechless. everyone in the lab start passing condolences to the researcher.
A: oh my. poor thing [i wonder if shes talking abt the rat or the researcher]
B: aiyo. why u shave its whiskers again!? see la. no whiskers die.
C: ehs. we got limited rats ar. LIMITED. pls keep your rats alive until they are meant to die.
D: u overdose it ar?
researcher remains inconsolable.
my mentor: sighs. its one of those unexplained mysteries of science.
then 5 minutes later. my mentor shrieks at me. "you didnt wear covered shoes!"
oops.
[she said to drop by the lab what. i thought drop by = afew minutes chit chat then byebye. how i know she wants me to observe a brain surgery and play with the rats] :p
anyway she started to talk to me about what im supposed to do, what im supposed to learn, and my schedule over the next 3 weeks. omg. it took 2 hrs can? darn. it only took 5 minutes with my prof. i would much rather meet her than my prof.
me: how many rats estimated would we be using for the experiment over the year?
mentor: prob using about 40rats, but in the end, expect n = 2.
huh?!?!
this is animal experiments. not molecular experiments which require n = 3462. plus rats die too often.
ok.
anyway. surgeries should mostly be done by me. so we can try to minimise wastage of the rats.
ouch.
and after surgery, theres the recovery period of 2 weeks, in which u shall be the one to play with the rats, chit chat with them, and keep them well fed and happy. 和他们培养一些感情。 after that we shall experiment and kill them.
give false grin. and inwardly: "omg. sound sadistic."
and i went on my ribbon craze today during shopping. lab tml. lab day after. wheee.

Poets say science takes away from the beauty of the stars - mere globs of gas atoms. I, too, can see the stars on a desert night, and feel them. But do I see less or more?
