last saturday...... having completed my self directed learning assignment, i have uploaded it! MUAHAHA. but im over the word limit by erms.... 500words? *shrugs* im not good at estimating word limit. i hope the lecturer aint good at it too. he did say that he would close one eye to permissible word limit overshooting. well. i guess the word "permissible" is subjective. :p
been having a series of anecdotes.
you know when your tutor is a true-blue scientist when he cracked scientific jokes almost every minute. during tutorial on friday, he was rather interesting and engaging [180degrees change from during lectures!] he started from a student at a corner, and made almost every student answer his questions. then all of a sudden he will jump to a student in another place and he calls himself the "transposon in the class genome" so we have all became individual nucleotide.
oh and you know he's not a boring nerdy scientist, when he was explaining a theory and he used SS to denote a particular imaginary gene. SS for "super super" according to a famous old song [or so he said] and he sang a segment of it. then he realised... there's a huge age gap between him and us, and feigned sorrow.
then you found out he's a child at heart. because i disagreed with his answer, telling him that the particular mutation can be both a gain-of-function (GOF) or a loss-of-function (LOF) mutation, and he got me to explain why it could be a LOF. so i was doing the homodimer and how each allele can give rise to its own polypeptide. a LOF allele gives a defective protein and BLAH BLAH BLAH. then he went "so its a combination of good-good, good-bad, and bad-bad?" and then voila! it became much clearer. sighs. he's actually quite a good lecturer. i realise im quite bad at explaining myself. IN MANY WAYS!
and for geraldine leow! [go google for the song :p] Les maudits Francais by Linda Lemay
Y disent qu'y dînent quand y soupent
