I believe in angels,
The kind that heaven sends,
I am surrounded by angels,
But I call them friends.

irish symbols
- 월요일, 11월 03, 2008 -

i should really be doing my essay.
but i decided to research on irish symbols which i have always love! got the information from here

i got a celtic harp pendant which includes a celtic knot in its design. j'adore! haha.

The legend behind the celtic harp: There was a chief among the Taatha De Danaan named Dagda, who owned the first Gaelic harp. It was stolen by the gods of cold and darkness, and then given to Fomorians. Fomorians was at war with Taatha De Danaan. The gods of light and art recovered the harp and gave it back to Dagda. They gave two secret names for the harp to Dagda, and called forth winter and summer. Ever since then, Dagda could play Goltrai, Geantrai and Suantrai -- music that could make men weep, music that brought joy and music that lulled men to sleep. So celtic harps became known as the dispensers of sorrow, happiness and rest.
the celtic harp is the official emblem of ireland. and on guinness. haha.

the celtic knots generally symbolise a neverending cycle of life, in which we each add our particular strand in the fabric of time and space. the lines are interwoven, in the same way we are interwoven with everyone around us. even though each loop is individual, it cannot be separated from the whole.
a simple form of a celtic knotwork is the eternity knot. its made up of two continuous loops that are intertwined, and cannot be separated from each other.

Claddagh: it is made up of a heart held by two hands with a crown above. the hands symbolise friendship, crown loyalty and heart love. the claddagh ring is the traditional irish wedding ring. isnt it fitting that two lovers should be the best of friends, and are loyal to each other?

if the claddagh ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing out, the wearer's heart is not yet won.

if the claddagh ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing in, the wearer is under love's spell and the two lovers are engaged.

if the claddagh ring is worn on the left hand with the heart facing in, it shows the world that the wearer's love has found home in marriage.

throughout claddagh history, the mother hands down her claddagh ring to her daughter with the words "with these hands i give you my heart and crowns it with my love"
a woman wearing this ring from her loved one can tell the world that "this heart belongs only to my one true love"

sighs. back to my essay. haha.
i want to go ireland again.
